ZEARING IA.,  A rural community nestled into the north east corner of Story County. Zearing is home to almost 600 residents.  Small town Iowa with everything you need!  Zearing is known for it's great summer festival, Zearing Days and the late Dick Sparrow's once famous 40-horse hitch.
​You can always find something to do whether it is going to local shops, visiting Dakins Lake or just passing through. Dakins Lake is a favorite spot for locals and travelers with camping, hiking, fishing and other outdoor activities.  Or stop by Threshold Learning Center for an experience to remember. On Main Street Zearing you can find the Dakins Community Center, City Hall, Library, Heritage Room, Post Office, Banking, Health Clinic, Pharmacy, Car Wash, Auto Repair, Convenience Store & Food, a Pub and more!
Zearing is one of three towns that makes up the Colo-Nesco School district and houses the school's Elementary Learning Center (K-4th grades). Home of the C-N Royals!  Zearing is also home to the Lincoln Township Mausoleum. The mausoleum was certified as a historical landmark by the state in 2007, and has since seen both structural and cosmetic improvements. 
Whether you are just visiting, considering moving to town, or you are a Zearing resident.  It is no doubt Zearing is a great town to call home!

Special City Announcements: ​
City of Zearing Water Rate Increase
During the April 11th City Council meeting the City of Zearing approved a 4% water rate increase.  The water rate change will go into effect June 1, 2023 and Customers will see it reflected on their June billing.
For the average residential customer using about 5,000 gallons per month, the increase will be about $1.50 on average.
The water rate increase is due to the IRUA water rate increase to the City of Zearing of 4%.
